Growth mindset is about believing that with effort and time, it is possible to learn and improve one’s abilities.

This concept is most essential when we’re learning something new. People who lack a growth mindset, often give up or never start learning new skills. They believe it is impossible to increase one’s potential. So they never try and would never know their true potential. That’s why it is necessary to unlearn previous beliefs about learning and foster a growth mindset.

But how can someone go about doing that?

I found Amal Totkay; 5 tips that can help in developing a growth mindset.

  1. Self Talk

The way we talk to ourselves matters a lot. Negative self talk leads to hurdles that don’t exist in reality but we make them our reality. If we keep telling ourselves that “I can’t do it”, this negative self talk manifests itself into our reality. So it’s important for us to be compassionate towards ourselves.

Start having positive self talk. The growth mindset will develop once we start telling ourselves that “I can do this”.

2. Get out of Comfort Zone

It’s human nature to seek comfort. The downside of it is that less challenges make our life stagnant. If we’re not constantly challenging ourselves then we’re not learning. Growth mindset does not develop in a person who’s not willing to leave their comfort zone.

Put yourself in situations that require you to push yourself. Don’t get afraid by the thoughts of failure. Embrace the mistakes and failures as learning opportunities.

3. Create New Hobby

Hobby is an activity that brings pleasure in our lives. It is a source of enjoyment. Doing something out of the normal routine can provide us with new learning opportunities.

This is my favorite tip. I practice this regularly and I also advise this to anyone who gets bored with their routine.

If you believe you can learn something new, then start a hobby such as sculpting, painting or even programming. You’re never too old to start a hobby.

4. Ask People for Help

One of our needs is to have genuine human connection. We all long for a supportive community. It is possible by sharing and caring.

When we’re developing a growth mindset we require feedback as well. People who care for us and those who are sincere, can help us in this regard.

Ask them how you’ve been doing lately. And how can you improve on your communication and behavior.

5. Fake it till you Make it

The idea that you’ve to fake the feeling or act you believe in the idea until it becomes permanent. Another way to say is “Believe it til you Achieve it.”

For a growth mindset, it can be really helpful. Because even if you don’t believe in this mindset and work to develop it, you might see results. Those results will be enough to motivate you to believe in a growth mindset.

All these tips have helped me and several other people like me, in developing a growth mindset.

The main takeaway of these tips is that everyone can learn anything with effort, and persistent hard work. Don’t wait for tomorrow to improve yourself. Do it today, right now. Because that’s how you’ll challenge yourself and get one step closer to having a growth mindset.

Let me know in the comments which tips have you tried? Do you find growth mindset helpful in achieving you goals?
